The story. As a child, I spent a lot of time making things with crayons, cut paper and Elmers glue. I grew up in Lansing and Grand Ledge, Michigan. I went to Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo where such skills served me well on the road to a BFA in Graphic Design. I enjoyed three years as a designer in Austin and Chicago in the 80s before succumbing to the urge to be the MC of my own personal circus. One thing led to another and I call myself an illustrator. I've been doing it since 1990. Many thanks to my associates in Chicago who took a chance and gave me a start. In search of endless bliss, true love and home-grown tomatoes, I've passed through Austin, Chicago, San Francisco and Oakland, Sonoma County, and now back to Kalamazoo. When I'm not creating illustrations for clients around the world, I'm usually pulling weeds, cooking, remodeling something, or tending 2 unruly cats. I found true love with my partner David, and gave up on endless bliss. The tomatoes are a work-in-progress. I maintain a longstanding passion for typeface design. I've brought forth, for better or worse Retrofit, Beachbuoy, Ovallique, Charminette and Candykitchen and am always seeking inspiration for the next font in a flea market or a faded signboard. |
